USCIS Has Completed FY 2017 H-1B Cap Lottery

On April 7, 2016, USCIS introduced it had received enough H-1B petitions to achieve the legal cap of 65,000 visas for FY 2017. Additionally they received greater than the limit of 20,000 H-1B petitions filed underneath the advanced degree exemption, also referred to as the master’s cap. As a whole USCIS received greater than 236,000 H-1B petitions throughout the filing period which started on April 1. On April 9, 2016, USCIS used a pc-produced random buying process to pick enough petitions to satisfy the 65,000 general-category cap and also the 20,000 master’s cap. No more than 27% of H-1B petitions which were filed were selected within this year’s lottery. USICS will reject and return all unselected petitions using their filing charges.
